Iowa Academic Advising Network Drive-In Conference – Tuesday, April 2, 2019

The Iowa Academic Advising Network (IowaAAN) is a professional development organization for current and aspiring academic advisors throughout the state of Iowa. The IowaAAN aims to foster personal and professional growth of its members by establishing opportunities for participation and discussion, debate, and the exchange of ideas concerning academic advising within the state of Iowa and related areas of higher education.

We are pleased to be hosting our 10th annual Drive-In Conference on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the FFA Enrichment Center on the DMACC-Ankeny campus. This year’s conference will feature a keynote presentation titled “Facilitating Student Engagement: Some Strategies That Work and a Few That Don’t” provided by Dr. John Schuh.

You may recognize Dr. Schuh from his most recent contributions to textbooks used in many graduate programs, including Student Services: A Handbook for the Profession and Assessment in Student Affairs. Over the course of his 47-year career in Higher Education, Schuh served in administrative and faculty assignments at Wichita State University, Indiana University (Bloomington), Arizona State University, and Iowa State University from where he retired after serving as the Director of the Emerging Leaders Academy and earning the title of Distinguished Professor Emeritus. Schuh is author, co-author, or editor of over 275 publications, including 33 books and monographs, 80 book chapters, and over 110 articles and has served on the governing board of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), the National Association of Student Personnel Administration (NASPA), the Association of College and University Housing Officers (ACUHO-I), and the Board of Directors of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators Foundation.

The IowaAAN is excited to offer a limited number of scholarships for complimentary drive-in conference registration to full-time graduate students who are Iowa residents or enrolled in program within the state of Iowa. Graduate student scholarship applications will be accepted until 5:00 PM on Monday, February 25, 2019. Don’t miss out on your chance to participate in this outstanding professional development opportunity for free!
