Purdue University Honors College Seeks Advisors

Purdue University Honors College is hiring two new Honors Advisors.  

Background on the Purdue University Honors College:

They are leadership development, undergraduate research, community and global experiences, and interdisciplinary academics. 

 Full description of the open positions:

 As an Honors Advisor, you will provide supplemental advising about the Honors College curriculum and experience to current and prospective Honors College students at Purdue University.  You will assist students in creation of short and long term curricular and co-curricular goals as well as provide information regarding curricular and co-curricular programs and opportunities including Study Abroad, Honors, 21st Century Scholars, Leadership Development, etc. This position will advise approximately 375 incoming freshman. Additionally, you will develop and share strategies for academic success, coach students in development of professional behaviors, and conduct audits on students’ progress toward their degree.  You will also provide guidance about graduate / professional school, career / internship opportunities and the job search process, and help students link learning and professional preparation in the workplace.

 **This position represents two vacancies.**

 Qualifications Required:

  • Master’s degree in a field relevant to the position.
  • One year of experience in academic advising, student services, graduate teaching, research, or related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff, students and parents.
  • Must be able to work independently with guidance from supervisor in a team-oriented environment.
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.)

 Preferred:

  • Knowledge of academic advising for undergraduate students.
  • Knowledge of key issues related to recruiting and advising highly motivated, high-achieving undergraduates strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of programs and majors at Purdue University.
  • Ability to work independently with guidance from supervisor in a team-oriented environment.

  • FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible For Overtime)
